Sun Jinlong, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Inspected Huadian Xiangyang's Power Generation Project through Blending with Coal and Praised Its "First (Set of)" Major Technological Eq

On April 11, 2025, Sun Jinlong, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), visited Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, to conduct an on-site inspection of the nation's first biomass gasification power plant coupling with coal primarily fueled by agricultural and forestry waste straw. The project, developed by Huadian Hubei Xiangyang Company, utilizes independently developed biomass circulating fluidized bed gasification equipment from Hefei Debo Bioenergy Technology Co., Ltd. This equipment has been successfully included in the "2021 Catalogue of Major Technological Equipment (Projects) Recognized as First (Set of) in the Energy Sector", highlighting China's technological innovation and leadership in biomass energy utilization.

During the site visit, Secretary Sun Jinlong inquired in detail about the project's technical processes, emission reduction performance, and social benefits. By converting agricultural and forestry waste straw through pyrolysis gasification technology, the project not only achieves resource utilization of waste but also significantly reduces carbon emission intensity and improves comprehensive resource efficiency. It plays a vital role in promoting green, low-carbon development and the construction of a Beautiful China.

Sun spoke highly of the innovative achievements made by Huadian Xiangyang and Hefei Debo in the field of biomass gasification-coupled power generation. He emphasized that the biomass circulating fluidized bed gasification equipment, as a "First (Set of)" technological breakthrough, demonstrates remarkable technical advantages and exemplary significance. He encouraged the project team to fully leverage this technological edge, continue advancing the large-scale application of biomass energy, and provide strong support for China's green and low-carbon transition.

Notably, the second-phase Xiangyang biomass gasification-coupled power generation and biochar co-production project has officially commenced construction. Hefei Debo, with its outstanding technical expertise, successfully secured the bid for the biomass gasification segment. The second-phase project will further expand the scale of biomass energy utilization, achieving higher energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions through gasification-coupled coal-fired power generation. This will contribute even more to China's energy structure optimization and ecological civilization development.

This inspection not only showcased China's innovative achievements and technical capabilities in the biomass energy sector but also charted a course for its future development.
